A Step-by-Step Guide to Getting Set Up with Siteground Hosting

HIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS, AS EXPLAINED IN MY DISCLOSURE

I recently set up another blog. As I was setting up the hosting, I thought I would take screenshots of the process so I could show how easy the process is when you use Siteground.

I’ve been using SiteGround for many years, and I’m convinced it is the easiest to set up and navigate. I’ll explain why you should secure your hosting with SiteGround in just a moment.

The Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up Your SiteGround Account

The first thing you need to do is click this link and go to the SiteGround website. When you arrive at the home page, click the link on the hosting package you want to purchase. I picked Managed WordPress Hosting because this blog will be set up using WordPress.

Choose Your Package

Next, you will choose the hosting plan you need. I choose Start-up because I am only setting up one blog right now. Soon, I will be moving another over to SiteGround, so I will have to upgrade my plan.

I paid for a year because it was cheaper and I didn’t want the hassle of paying every month. The monthly rate is also a little bit more, so be aware.

Pick Your Domain, or Not

On the next screen, you will be asked if you want to secure a domain. I hadn’t purchased Blogooroo.com yet, so I paid the $15.95 charge for one year.

You can also choose to purchase the domain at NameCheap.com for a bit cheaper, but it’s easier for me to have everything in one place, so I paid a bit more.

Enter Account Information

The next screen is where you enter all your information, like email address and street address.

This step is relatively self-explanatory – if you’ve ever bought anything on the web, you have probably already done this before.

Why I Picked SiteGround

I’ve used SiteGround in the past and was very happy with the service and support. Everything about the process of setting up and using their services was wonderful, and if I had all day, I couldn’t tell you enough good things about them.

Why I pick SiteGround?

  • They are faster than most hosts
  • SiteGround’s hosting is safer
  • The support is the best I’ve ever received

Finishing the Setup

On the next screen, choose the option to set up a new website, unless you are an expert and you don’t need guided help.

On this screen, you can also choose to protect your personal information with domain privacy. If you don’t want to associate your name and address information with the domain, you can pay a little more and hide it.

I picked the option to set up a new website and choose WordPress as my software of choice.

After the installation of WordPress, you will get a message that your hosting account is ready to use.

Using CPanel

You can now click on the “My Account” tab and see all the information about your account. From here you can also access the CPanel.

The CPanel is where you go to access all of the settings and software associated with your website.

Setting Up the Secure Server

You’ll want a secure server certificate (SSL). This certificate will give you HTTPS, instead of the insecure HTTP, and in the URL field in the browser, your site will show as secure.

In the CPanel, go to the Security section and choose “Let’s Encrypt.”

You want to Install a New Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate. Pick your domain name from the list and choose an SSL type. Click Install.

You have now successfully set up SSL, and your website is ready to go. Now you can set up your blog with WordPress. I will be showing you how to do that next time.

I hope you enjoyed this guide, and don’t forget to sign up with SiteGround!
